I think you raise an interesting point here regarding the historical precedent of less armor vs. more.

For me, the issue is that female characters are often focused around their physical appearance in ways that male characters are not. Not to say there aren’t issues with objectification of all genders, but in my experience it happens more with female characters in Hollywood and in comics, video games, etc.

The Hawkeye Project is an interesting look at male heroes posed and costumed in the way their female counterparts are, which I think highlights the implausibility of a lot of the costumes and poses women are written/illustrated into.
